Food preservation also helps to reduce food costs and extends the shelf life of food in food processing companies.<\/p>\n<h2> Methods of Food Preservation<\/h2\nWhen it comes to food preservation there are two methods included which are physical and chemical.\n\nPhysical food preservation includes refrigerating, drying, controlled atmosphere storage, various forms of heat treatment, vacuum packaging, high hydrostatic pressure, and freezing food items.\n\n\n\n<h2>Chemical Preservation<\/h2>\n<p>Chemical food preservation involves adding ingredients to the food in order to prevent oxidation, bacterial growth, and rancidity. Sodium nitrate\/ nitrite is the preservative used in processed meats and may also have cancer-causing effects especially if it is consumed in more amounts. Artificial food colorings and Sodium benzoate might heighten hyperactivity in children.
